Comfortably Uncomfortable
Just got back from LA..... I LOVE IT by the way. Being out there really made me realize how fortunate and blessed I've been this far. It also gave me the motivation in seeing how far I still have to go. For the most part, it was fun and EXCITING, but yet it was weird. I never thought that I would ever go to California let alone go there because I was booked to do a show. I was out of my element or what I like to say "Comfortably Uncomfortable".
For those who don't know what that means, all it is is making uncomfort your comfort zone, so that you will continue to grow and expand. The willingness to work in condition that you aren't use to.
It is so funny, because the number one question I get from a fan is 'how do you get started in the industry'? And it is simple...YOU GET STARTED. That is the first step. So many people piddle paddle and talk so much about getting started or what they are gonna do that they actually forget where the start button is. Second step is understanding that you are going to have to work outside of your comfort zone. What's that saying? In order to get something you've never had, you have to do something you've never done. It's true! Be different, but BE YOU. Take note to the second part of that statement, because I don't want people to use this as a way to breed hoes. I am just saying... Anyway... You also have to remember this THERE IS NO GETTING INTO THE INDUSTRY FOR DUMMIES written somewhere. You can't google it, google will lead you into to the wrong direction. All the connects I have made thus far in the industry were by mere chance. I didn't plan it, I didn't ask someone to show me, I just happened to do the right thing at the right time and was there at the right time.
One of my favorite examples is how I became a model for world known photographer Derek Blanks. I was 19 years old, and at the time I was promoting parties with a college roomie. Now my roomie wanted so badly to be a model, and I could care less. One day, I just decided to send my picture in to a modeling agency just to see what would happen. There was no reason behind it. Who would've thought that my club picture would get me signed to a modeling agency. Naturally, my friend was pissed, but she got over it. Long story short, I needed a photo shoot and they put me with Derek Blanks to shoot me. I had never done a photo shoot, not even a bootleg one, and my first one was with a real photographer, a real stylist, and a real make up artist! I was so nervous, I looked mean in the 1st ten to fifteen frames. But Derek was so nice that he gave me some advice, turned the fan on, and BOOM, you would've thought I was Beyonce! After that he booked me to model other things for him, which led me to the opportunity of being an Elasta QP spokesmodel, which led to me doing music videos.
The point that I am making is none of this would've happen in the order it was suppose to happen if I hadn't stepped outside of my comfort zone. I only wanted to sing, but I stepped out to try a different approach and was successful at it. So remember there is nothing wrong being outside of your comfort zone, just be you, and #KillIt like it is your zone. You never what could happen!!
